For years, board development experts have exhorted non-profits to improve the quality of governance coming from their boards. Some say the key to a good board experience is in the board’s committee structure and codes of conduct, others say embracing the mission, and still others say having a great board chair and/or Executive Director.
These exhortations haven’t really worked. Too many boards and individual board members are struggling. BoardTest approaches this challenge differently by asking and answering two big questions: 1) what kind of results is your board getting from its people, purpose, and policy processes; and, 2) what can your board do right now to become the great board your non-profit deserves. Easy Access. The proprietary BoardTest assessments are 100% web-based so every board member and key stakeholder can access the tool on their own schedule from an internet accessible computer. Custom Action Plan. Included in the results from the assessments will be an action plan customized to your board's specific circumstances. These tangible recommended actions will get your board started in either becoming a great board or staying a great board. Great for Associations That Care About Member Governance. For example, we recently partnered with Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action to give their members access to a special version of BoardTest through the middle of 2012.
